Sally had had diabetes for fifteen years, but fortunately had not run into any significant problems. Suddenly, however, she had developed double vision.
I asked her if she had blurring of her vision or dark spots, but she didn't.
Within seconds of Sally entering the office, I told her what was wrong with her. Sally was sceptical. "Not that I don't trust you, doctor," she said to me, "but you haven't even examined me yet; how could you possibly know what is wrong?"
"Well, Sally," I said to her, "to be honest it is not that difficult; indeed, I bet a first year medical student could see what is wrong. You see, Sally, "when I look in your eyes, I see..."
