When Bob went to see his diabetes specialist for a routine check up, Dr. Smith asked him how things had been going since his last visit six months earlier. "Fine," he told Dr. Smith. "Just fine." Dr. Smith wasn't the kind of doctor who would just accept things at face value so, as was her custom, she asked some probing questions. "Any chest pains?" No. "Any breathing problems?" No. "Any diarrhea?" No. "Any problems sexually?" Bob paused.
"Well..." Bob said hesitantly. "I guess, sort of..."
"Bob, could you be a bit more specific?" Dr. Smith asked.
"Well, things aren't working quite right."
"Oh," Dr. Smith said. "You've had diabetes for over fifteen years, so it's quite common to have erectile dysfunction. I'll give you a prescription for Viagra and we'll see if that helps." As Dr. Smith pulled out her prescription pad, Bob interrupted her.
"Doctor, I really don't think that Viagra will help me." Dr. Smith looked at Bob with a puzzled expression.
"Bob, how do you know it won't help if you don't try it first," she asked.
"Because, Dr. Smith, it's not that I don't get an erection, its just that, well, ahem... Dr. Smith, do you ever watch ice hockey on TV?"
"Sure, I guess. Well, at least when the playoffs are on. But what has hockey got to do with your erectile dysfunction?"
"Dr. Smith, what I'm getting at here is that my penis reminds me of..."
