The case of the secret snacking: solution

The correct answer is choice number 2. Betty was showing evidence of the dawn phenomenon. Now of course, maybe she had been snacking overnight and maybe I'm just not fessing up because she raised her offer to me! (Heck, I'm not going to tell-I'm a doctor you know).

The dawn phenomenon is characterized by a rise in blood sugar readings beginning about 3 in the morning. It is caused by sugar being pulled out of the liver due to the effect of certain hormones. I discuss this further on my FAQ page.

By the way, this is the format I use in my book (What Your Doctor Really Thinks).
